Yampano Video Scandal Leads to More Arrests

Rwanda’s National Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested two more individuals in connection with the Yampano video scandal. Journalists Cyprien Uzabakiriho, known as Djihad, and Kwizera Nestor, also called Pappy Nesta, face charges for distributing explicit videos featuring the popular Rwandan musician Yampano.

With these arrests, the total number of suspects linked to this scandal has risen to five.

Arrests Confirmed by RIB Spokesperson

Dr. Murangira B. Thierry, RIB’s spokesperson, confirmed that the two men were arrested on the night of November 26, 2025. He emphasized that investigations had been ongoing to identify others involved in spreading the videos online.

“Yes, they were arrested and are being investigated. These actions must stop. Anyone found distributing these obscene videos will face legal consequences. Our investigation will continue until all responsible parties are held accountable,” Dr. Murangira stated.

Djihad and Pappy Nesta are being held at RIB Kicukiro station while authorities prepare their case for prosecution.

Previous Arrests Related to the Scandal

The investigation into the Yampano video scandal began after Yampano himself filed a complaint on November 9, 2025, requesting a full investigation into those responsible for circulating the explicit footage.

Earlier arrests include:

  • Patrick Ishimwe (Pazzo Man) – arrested on November 11, 2025

  • Kalisa John (K. John) – arrested on November 14, 2025 for helping promote the videos

  • François Xavier Ishimwe – arrested on November 18, 2025 for extortion related to sharing the videos

Authorities note that sharing explicit content is a criminal offense under Rwandan law.

RIB Warns Against Sharing Explicit Content

RIB continues to warn the public about the legal consequences of distributing private or obscene content. Citizens are reminded to respect the privacy and dignity of others, both online and offline.

The agency stresses that involvement in spreading such content, either directly or indirectly, is punishable by law and can cause irreparable damage to victims’ lives and reputations.

The Importance of Protecting Privacy and Reputation

This scandal highlights the need for digital responsibility in Rwanda. Individuals are urged to:

  • Avoid sharing explicit videos

  • Protect the privacy of others online

  • Report violations to authorities immediately

Maintaining someone’s dignity is a shared responsibility. Social media users must understand that distributing harmful content has serious legal and ethical consequences.
