The Aircraft and Its Flight History
The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft used around the world for medical, business, and charter flights. It first entered service in the 1970s and is known for its reliability.
The aircraft involved in the crash had recently flown from Athens, Greece, to Pula, Croatia, before arriving at Southend Airport. It was scheduled to return to Lelystad, the company’s base in the Netherlands, on the same day.
Witnesses reported that the plane lifted off but quickly lost control, then exploded on the ground. Flames and smoke were visible from nearby areas.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has sent a team to lead the investigation. Experts in flight operations, engineering, human error, and recorded data are now working at the crash site.
Lisa Fitzsimons from the AAIB stated that it is too early to confirm the cause of the accident. The full investigation may take weeks or months.
Essex Police is also supporting the effort, and local authorities have blocked off the area to ensure safety and allow for data collection.

London Southend Airport, located about 45 miles east of central London, remained closed on Monday, the day after the crash. Dozens of flights were canceled or diverted. There is no confirmed reopening date yet.
