Rwandan Peacekeepers Honored in Central African Republic

Rwandan peacekeepers honored for their brave and professional service in the Central African Republic (CAR) received medals from President Faustin Archange Touadera. These peacekeepers are part of the United Nations (UN) mission working to protect civilians and restore peace. This recognition highlights their dedication to international peacekeeping efforts.

Why Rwandan Peacekeepers Were Honored

The award ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Bangui, the capital of CAR. It was attended by senior military officers and government officials. The medals were presented to troops of the 13th Rwandan Battalion (RWABATT13) under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

These awards represent a deep appreciation for their contribution and also reflect strong Rwanda–CAR military cooperation.

Rwanda’s Peacekeeping Mission in CAR

Rwandan peacekeepers honored in CAR are part of a long-standing mission that began in January 2014. Initially deployed through the African Union, Rwanda sent 850 soldiers to support peace efforts. The mission later transitioned to the UN framework through MINUSCA.

Today, Rwanda is one of the top troop-contributing countries, sending soldiers and police officers to support:

  • Civilian protection
  • Peace enforcement
  • Humanitarian aid security

Impact of Rwanda–CAR Military Cooperation

In December 2020, during the presidential elections in CAR, Rwanda deployed more troops under a bilateral agreement. The Rwandan forces helped local authorities to:

  • Secure mining areas
  • Protect agriculture projects
  • Safeguard government institutions

Thanks to their presence, many areas once under rebel control are now back under the government’s authority.

Economic Growth and Rwandan Investment in CAR

The peacekeeping efforts have created safer conditions for economic growth. As a result, Rwandan investors are now starting businesses in key sectors like:

  • Healthcare
  • Construction
  • Trade and logistics

This shows how peace and security can directly benefit development.

Rwandan Peacekeepers Honored for Discipline and Service

The Rwandan peacekeepers honored are praised for their discipline, professionalism, and dedication. Their presence in CAR has not only restored peace but also built trust within local communities.

President Touadera’s gesture is a heartfelt thank-you to the Rwandan forces and proof that their work is making a difference.

Importance of Peacekeeping Missions

UN missions such as MINUSCA are critical for stabilizing regions in conflict. Rwanda’s strong involvement proves how African countries can contribute to lasting peace.
