Rwanda Becomes a Foundation Member of the IOM Fund
Kigali/Geneva – August 22, 2025 – Rwanda has officially become a foundation member of the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Resilience Fund, following a significant voluntary financial contribution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MINAFFET) described this move as a reaffirmation of Rwanda’s strong commitment to human-centered migration governance built on dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity.
Understanding the IOM Resilience Fund
The Resilience Fund is part of IOM’s global initiative to raise USD 100 million in flexible funding. Its purpose is to:
- Respond quickly to emergencies and humanitarian crises
- Provide life-saving aid and displacement solutions
- Strengthen resilience for migrants and displaced people
- Support long-term humanitarian operations worldwide
More details about the campaign can be found on the IOM official page.
Rwanda’s Contribution and Global Impact
According to IOM Director General Amy Pope, Rwanda’s contribution allows the organization to stay agile, accountable, and ready to deliver help wherever it is most needed.
Last year, IOM assisted more than 26 million people in 186 countries, making it one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world. However, with growing global crises and financial uncertainty, flexible support such as Rwanda’s is vital.

Why This Step Is Important
Strengthening Cooperation
Rwanda’s support reflects its trust in multilateral solutions. This contribution helps IOM maintain readiness in fast-changing and high-risk environments.
Boosting Humanitarian Response
Rwanda has a history of contributing to peacekeeping, refugee protection, and humanitarian support. By joining the Resilience Fund, the country strengthens its role as a key African partner in global humanitarian action.
Looking Ahead
Through its involvement with the IOM Resilience Fund, Rwanda sends a strong message: nations can play an active role in shaping migration solutions that put people first.
As global crises become more complex, Rwanda’s engagement helps ensure international responses remain timely, coordinated, and effective.
