Children with disabilities enjoyed sports and games during the 2025 International Children’s Day celebration in Remera.

Children with disabilities from different districts in Rwanda came together to celebrate International Children’s Day through sports, games and community support. The event brought smiles, inclusion, and equal participation for all children. This article explains how the celebration was held, who attended, and why the day was important for families and organizations working for child rights.

Big Celebration Held in Remera

The celebration took place on Thursday, 20 November 2025, inside the NPC Gymnasium in Remera.
Many leaders, parents and organizations that support children with disabilities were present to mark this special day.

Officials Who Attended

Among the guests were:

  • Dominic Muntanga, UNICEF Representative

  • Uwayo Fabrice, Acting Director of Sports Development at the Ministry of Sports

  • Ingabire Assumpta, Senior Official at the National Child Development Agency (NCDA)

  • Bizimana Dominique, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC)

  • Parents and guardians of children with different disabilities

The theme of this year’s celebration was “My Rights, All the Time”, reminding everyone that every child deserves respect, protection and equal opportunities.

Children Came From Different Districts

Children with disabilities participated from various districts including:

  • Gasabo

  • Huye

  • Nyagatare

  • Rubavu

Parents and caregivers also joined the event to support their children and celebrate their achievements.

Games and Fun Activities for the Children

The day was filled with happiness as children enjoyed different sports designed for persons with disabilities.

Boccia Competition

In Boccia:

  • Huye District team won against Gasabo with a score of 7–3.

Goalball Competition

In Goalball:

  • Nyagatare team performed the best and won the match.

After all games were completed, the best teams received awards, including trophies to appreciate their hard work and participation.
