Musanze | Police Arrest Livestock Thieves

Police in Musanze District carried out a strong operation against livestock thieves after residents had been complaining about losing their animals, especially cows and goats. The action followed growing insecurity concerns in several villages.

According to IP Ignace Ngirabakunzi, the spokesperson of the Rwanda National Police in the Northern Province, the operation was done in close cooperation with local leaders and citizens. He said that working together is the only way to keep communities safe and protect people’s property.

He explained, “The partnership between police and residents is very important. It helps us stop theft and other crimes that slow down development and destroy people’s wellbeing.”

Ngirabakunzi added that anyone who continues to engage in criminal acts like stealing livestock will be arrested and face justice. “No one will escape the law,” he said.

The arrested suspects are now detained at the Muhoza Police Station where they will face investigation and possible charges. Authorities have promised to continue with similar operations to make sure security is fully restored in the area.

Residents expressed their happiness after hearing about the arrests. Many said that losing their cows and goats had affected their income and daily food supply. They thanked the police for responding quickly and protecting their animals.

Local leaders in Musanze also encouraged residents to report any suspicious movement or unknown people seen in their communities. They said cooperation between citizens and police is the key to building safer neighborhoods.

This operation is part of Rwanda’s wider efforts to fight crimes that threaten the security and economy of citizens. The government continues to encourage people to form security groups and share information to prevent such incidents before they happen.

Livestock theft has been a growing problem in rural areas of Rwanda. In most cases, thieves target cows, goats, and sheep during the night. Police operations like the one in Musanze show that strong collaboration between citizens and law enforcement can help stop such crimes for good.

Why Cooperation Matters

Working together helps communities become safer. When residents report what they see, police can act faster and prevent more crimes. In Musanze, this teamwork between citizens and authorities made a big difference.
