Mom Produces Enough Milk for 50 Babies | Inspiring Story from Kenya

A 36-year-old mom from Kenya is changing lives. Njoroge Chelimo, a mother of two, discovered she produces more breast milk than her babies need. Now, this incredible mom produces enough milk to help feed over 50 newborn babies in hospitals.

This heartwarming story from Kenya shows the power of mothers and the kindness that can change lives.

How This Mom Produces Enough Milk for Others

Chelimo didn’t have an easy start. When she had her first baby, the child struggled to breastfeed. So she began using a pump to collect milk. Later, her baby learned how to latch and feed naturally.

As days passed, she noticed her milk production increased — and didn’t stop. Chelimo started storing her extra milk in clean containers to avoid wasting it.

Then came the idea: why not help other mothers who had no milk?

This Mom Produces Enough Milk to Feed 50 Babies

Chelimo began donating her milk to mothers whose babies were in neonatal care. These are fragile newborns who often need extra help. She says:

“I had enough breast milk to feed 50 newborns being cared for in the hospital. I gave my milk to help other families.”

She stored her milk for almost a year and donated it to other moms — some were her friends, others reached out after watching her videos online.

Mom Shares Her Milk Journey on TikTok

Chelimo started posting videos on TikTok showing:

  • How she pumps and stores milk
  • Tips for moms about breastfeeding
  • How to deal with challenges during nursing

Her page quickly gained over 16,000 followers. Many moms started contacting her for advice and support. She became a helpful voice for moms across Kenya.

The Problem with Milk Banks in Kenya

Kenya has only one milk bank, located at Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi. This bank accepts milk only from mothers who gave birth there, and it helps only babies still in that hospital.

This system leaves many babies without access to donated breast milk — even when moms like Chelimo want to help.

Experts Want More Milk Banks

Health experts say this needs to change.

Esther Kwamboka Mogusu, a nutrition officer in Nairobi, says the government plans to expand milk storage services to more hospitals in Kenya.

Mary Mathenge, a skilled midwife, says:

“Any milk shared between mothers must be tested and safely stored. This helps protect babies from illness.”

She believes Kenya needs better systems for safe milk donation and tracking.

Chelimo Still Produces Enough Milk to Help Others

Chelimo continues to give breast milk. When there is too much milk to store, she uses it for milk baths — cleaning her babies and keeping their skin soft.

Most of her milk still goes to help families with medical problems, stress, or no milk supply.
