Teacher From Nyanza Accused of Abusing Two Girls

A teacher from Nyanza TSS (formerly ETO Gitarama), located in Kigoma Sector, Butansinda Cell, is facing charges after two girls said he took them to his house, gave them snacks, and later abused them.

The two girls, aged 15 and 17, were selling snacks (ibiraha) when the incident happened.

How the Incident Happened

Girls Were Selling Snacks in the Trading Center

According to the prosecution, on March 30, 2024, in the evening, teacher Thomas Ntivuguruzwa met the girls in Butansinda trading center while they were selling snacks.
He reportedly invited them to his home and told them he would buy from them.

What Happened Inside the Teacher’s House

When they arrived, he allegedly:

  • Closed the door

  • Ate the snacks and gave them some

  • Refused to pay the 1,200 RWF they asked for

  • Told them they would spend the night there

  • Took them to a bedroom

  • Abused them

In the morning, he reportedly left them locked inside the house and walked away.

How the Incident Was Reported

The girls cried for help until a cleaning worker, who works in teachers’ houses, heard them and opened the door.

The worker then reported the situation to school authorities, and security officials immediately started searching for the teacher.

Prosecution Says Teacher Should Get 25 Years in Prison

The prosecution asked the court to give teacher Thomas 25 years in jail, saying the evidence clearly showed abuse and taking advantage of minors.

Teacher Denies All Charges

His Version of the Story

Teacher Thomas says the accusations are false.
He claims that:

  • He left a cleaner at home and went to visit a friend

  • When he returned, the girls and his cleaner were already sitting in his salon

  • Heavy rain prevented the girls from leaving

  • He allowed them to sleep in the house

  • In the morning he gave the cleaner the keys so they could leave

He admits the girls slept at his house but denies harming them.

Why He Did Not Report to Authorities

Thomas told the court he did not ask the girls why they came to his home or report to local authorities because:

  • It was late in the evening

  • He did not have phone contacts of any local leaders

When he returned home later, he found security officers already there.

Case Still Ongoing

The court continues to review evidence from both sides before giving a final decision.
The case has brought public attention to issues of student safety and teacher behavior in local schools.
