Muhanga  Mens Beat Woman to Death After Family Dispute

In Muhanga District, Rwanda, a shocking case of violence has left the community in grief. Reports confirm that two men attacked a woman in Remera trading center, Kiyumba sector, leading to her tragic death. This story has sparked concern about domestic violence and the importance of community awareness.

What Happened in Muhanga?

According to local authorities, the victim, identified as Mukeshimana, was living with one of the suspects, Serubuga Silas, in an unregistered union. On the night of the incident, Silas, Mukeshimana, and another man named Bagirubwira Michel had been drinking together.

On their way home, the two men allegedly beat Mukeshimana during heavy rain. Witnesses said that after realizing she was badly injured and unable to move, they left her lying on the ground and walked away.

Statements from Local Authorities

The Executive Secretary of Kiyumba sector, Eraste Gakwerere, confirmed the attack and said that Silas and Mukeshimana had a history of domestic conflict.

“The reports confirm that both men beat her. When they saw that she was weak and badly hurt, they abandoned her in the rain and went home,” Gakwerere explained.

Authorities and residents rushed to the scene after being alerted. The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and the Police are now investigating the case.

Domestic Conflicts in Rwanda

Cases like this highlight the dangers of unresolved conflicts inside homes. According to officials, Mukeshimana and Silas had been living together for a year without legal marriage, and ongoing disputes were reported between them.

Local leaders have called on citizens to:

  • Report family conflicts early to avoid escalation.

  • Encourage couples to formalize unions legally.

  • Promote peaceful solutions to disagreements rather than violence.

Community Reactions and Warnings

Residents of Kiyumba expressed sadness and anger over the killing. Many called for stronger measures to stop gender-based violence in the community.

Executive Secretary Gakwerere urged people to act before conflicts lead to loss of life.

“We ask citizens to avoid such violence and to report conflicts in families on time. This way, security organs can intervene before it is too late,” he said.

Looking Forward

This tragic event in Muhanga is not only a criminal case but also a lesson for society. Violence inside families continues to be a threat in Rwanda and elsewhere. The responsibility lies on everyone—families, communities, and leaders—to promote respect, communication, and peace in homes.
