Africa Should Not Be Left Behind Other Continents | P. Kagame

President Paul Kagame has called on African youth to rise and show the world the continent’s true power and greatness. Speaking during the launch of the Giants of Africa Festival 2025 in Kigali, Kagame said Africa should not be left behind other continents, and this can only change if young people believe in themselves and work hard.

The festival was launched on Sunday evening, bringing together youth leaders and officials from 20 countries. Masai Ujiri, founder of Giants of Africa and former president of NBA team Toronto Raptors, joined Kagame at the event.

P. Kagame Tells Youth: Believe in Your Talents

Kagame addressed the youth, urging them to believe in the greatness within them. He said their energy, effort, and time must be used both on and off the field to become future leaders.

“I ask you to believe in the greatness within yourselves. Then go and work hard. Use your time, use your skills—on the court and off it. That’s how greatness is made. And Africa needs that,” Kagame said.

“Africa Should Not Be Left Behind Other Continents”

Kagame delivered a strong message: Africa should not be left behind other continents, especially when it has the people, creativity, and strength to succeed.

“Africa must believe in its greatness. It must show that. We need to do the work great people do. Greatness grows, rises, and gains confidence,” he said.
“Africa must not remain behind the rest of the world. Why should it? What is the problem that cannot be solved?”

This statement was met with loud applause, as it deeply resonated with the young crowd gathered at the festival.

Youth Are the Voice of Africa’s Future

President Kagame encouraged the youth to use their voice and passion to become a force for change. He emphasized that Africa’s progress must begin with small steps—like the Giants of Africa festival—and grow to reach millions across the continent.

“Even from a small group like this, from different countries, we can grow, and we can impact millions of Africans. Let’s show the value we have and bring pride to Africa.”

He stressed that Africa’s transformation needs action, not just speeches.

“It’s not just about words. It’s about actions. And we must have the ability to take those actions.”
